MARKETING DIRECTOR
the future of agency is hiring a Marketing Director to lead our team of high-performing, creative campaign managers. This is a senior strategic role for an experienced book marketer who has run successful campaigns for both fiction and nonfiction titles and is ready to experience marketing in a fast-paced, quickly-growing environment.
We are one of the only full-service book marketing and publishing consulting agencies in the industry. Our clients include authors from major publishers, indie presses, hybrid publishers, and indie authors across all genres from adult fiction and nonfiction to picture books, middle grade, and YA. Our team uses a mix of our proven methods for systematic book marketing and an exploration of new marketing tactics to find the right readers for every book—driving sales through focused, creative campaigns.
As Marketing Director, you’ll manage a team of Campaign Managers, Publicity Strategists, and be supported by our Marketing Assistant, to oversee strategy and client communications for our full slate of ~45 clients per year, with a more hands-on approach for our highest-profile clients. You’ll bring strategic thinking, operational oversight, creative ideas, and a deep love of books, social media, and trendspotting as our company scales.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Own strategy and client communication for our full client list (~45 clients per year), ensuring consistency, excellence, and measurable results across all projects
Manage and mentor our Campaign Managers, Publicity Strategist, and Marketing Assistant through regular 1:1s, Slack communication, and review of their work and deliverables
Act as lead strategist and main point of contact for our highest-profile clients across both fiction and nonfiction
Personally execute select high-priority deliverables, including outreach to external partners and influencers, advertising campaigns, etc. for ~4-5 campaigns per year
Oversee and project-manage campaign execution—including managing timelines, and quality-checking deliverables, and campaign KPIs—across the entire marketing team
Drive creative direction, copy, and brand strategy for clients—from social media messaging to website and design direction
Collaborate with the Founder on internal strategy, team development, documentation, operational improvements, lead generation, and other special projects
Contribute to brand marketing for the future of agency, including contributing ideas and content for the agency’s social media and email newsletter platforms, speaking on company webinars, and other lead-gen activities
Introduce and test new marketing tactics, platforms, and tools that align with client and agency goals
Maintain and refine internal systems, workflows, and processes to support team efficiency and campaign success
Ensure team-wide accountability and performance through clear expectations, consistent oversight, and supportive leadership

An experienced book marketer with a track record of running successful campaigns for both fiction and nonfiction titles

QUALIFICATIONS:
7-8 years of experience in book publishing or book marketing preferred
2-3 years of people management experience required
Strong knowledge of social media (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Threads, BlueSky, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, Pinterest) and management platforms (Hootsuite, Buffer, Later, etc.) is a plus, but not required
Familiarity with marketing software and tools, including CRM, CMS, analytics, and social listening (Hubspot, Salesforce, Squarespace, Wordpress, Meltwater, Brandwatch, Mailchimp, etc.) is a plus, but not required
BENEFITS & SALARY:
Salary starting at $110,000+, commensurate with experience.
Performance based bonuses available.
Starting pay and title for the successful candidate depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
This position is fully remote with optional travel 2-3 times per year for meetings and conferences.
We are closed for business on all federal holidays and all full-time employees start with unlimited PTO.
