SENIOR PUBLICIST / PUBLICITY MANAGER
PART-TIME / CONTRACT, FULLY REMOTE
the future of agency is hiring a Senior Publicist / Publicity Manager to lead and execute publicity campaigns across our diverse client list. This is a part-time, contract position for an experienced publicist with a strong network of media contacts and a track record of securing meaningful, high-impact coverage for both fiction and nonfiction books.
We are one of the only full-service book marketing and publishing consulting agencies in the industry, working with authors and publishers across genres and imprints. Our team of Big 5 expats brings deep publishing experience and a sharp, modern approach to book marketing and publicity.
As Senior Publicist / Publicity Manager, you will independently plan and lead 5+ full publicity and events campaigns per season, while also supporting smaller publicity deliverables for other agency clients. You’ll collaborate closely with our marketing team to ensure each campaign’s publicity, events, and media outreach align seamlessly with larger book marketing goals.
This is a flexible fully remote role, with the opportunity to grow in the future. This role reports to the Senior Marketing Director.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Lead 5+ full-scale publicity campaigns per season, developing tailored media and event strategies for fiction and nonfiction titles
Pitch and secure major media coverage across print, broadcast, digital, and podcast outlets
Build and maintain strong relationships with editors, producers, and journalists across national, local, and trade media
Oversee event planning and logistics for author tours, launch events, and bookstore appearances
Manage speaking and special event pitching (festivals, conferences, etc.) for clients, including identifying opportunities, securing placements, and coordinating with event organizers
Pitch titles to high-profile and national book clubs and coordinate logistics for book club events
Coordinate bulk book orders and manage publicity logistics for author speaking events
Write and distribute press materials including pitch letters, press releases, and media alerts
Collaborate with the Senior Marketing Director and Campaign Managers to ensure unified strategy across all campaign touchpoints
Mentor and delegate logistics support to the Marketing & Publicity Assistant
Provide weekly or biweekly reports to clients with responses and feedback
Track publicity placements, contribute to wrap reports, and analyze campaign performance for clients and publishers
WHO YOU ARE:
An experienced book publicist with 5+ years of experience planning and executing successful publicity campaigns for both fiction and nonfiction titles
A strong communicator with established relationships across media outlets (national, broadcast, digital, and print)
Confident leading author communications, client meetings, and campaign updates independently
Skilled at organizing complex campaigns with many moving parts—events, press, and deadlines—without losing sight of details
Comfortable working remotely and collaborating through tools like Zoom, Slack, Google Workspace, and sending pitches via an email CRM (Hubspot)
A proactive, creative problem-solver who loves books, media, and building meaningful connections
Kind, flexible, and professional—able to manage multiple authors and projects simultaneously with calm and clarity
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum 5 years of book publicity experience (agency or in-house at a publisher)
Proven record of securing coverage in major national and niche outlets
Strong writing and pitching skills
Experience with author tour planning and event logistics
Familiarity with trade review submissions, media databases, and tracking tools
Ability to manage multiple campaigns and deadlines simultaneously
Experience collaborating cross-functionally with marketing and social media teams
COMPENSATION:
$40–$75/hour, commensurate with experience and scope
Approximately 20 hours per week, depending on campaign load
Fully remote, 1099 contract position
