Marketing/Publicity Associate (Contract)
the future of agency is hiring a Marketing/Publicity Associate to join our team in a part-time contract role, starting at approximately 20 hours per week. This role will work closely with our Senior Marketing Director, Senior Publicist, and Campaign Managers on book marketing and publicity campaigns across our client list.
This role is ideal for a marketing and publicity professional with 3+ years of experience who is looking to build hands-on experience across book marketing and publicity, take ownership of assigned projects, and continue growing their skills as part of a collaborative team. With support and mentorship from senior team members, the Marketing/Publicity Associate will execute campaign deliverables, support publicity outreach, and take ownership of assigned marketing campaigns and projects.
Our campaigns span fiction and nonfiction titles from Big 5 publishers, independent presses, hybrid publishers, and independent authors. The role will touch everything from influencer and grassroots marketing, to media and podcast outreach, trade review submissions, author events, and content creation—with the ultimate goal of connecting books with the right readers and driving book sales.
This is a fully remote, 1099 contract role starting at approximately 20 hours per week, with the opportunity for hours and responsibilities to grow over time.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Plan and execute assigned marketing campaigns and projects, with support from the Senior Marketing Director and Campaign Managers
Support the Senior Publicist with day-to-day publicity campaign execution, including media research, pitch drafting, outreach, follow-up, trade review submissions, and media opportunity coordination
Research and build targeted media, podcast, book club, influencer, organization, and other outreach lists, identifying and verifying relevant contacts
Draft publicity and marketing materials, including media and podcast pitches, press materials, advertising copy, social media copy, client updates, and other campaign communications
Customize, send, and follow up on approved media, podcast, influencer, organization, and other outreach through HubSpot, Agility, and other agency tools
Support digital advertising campaigns by communicating with advertising partners, drafting and routing copy, assigning creative assets, and tracking deadlines and deliverables
Support incoming publicity and event opportunities by coordinating scheduling, sending books and materials, and communicating logistics for media interviews, podcasts, bookstore events, speaking opportunities, and other appearances
Maintain organized campaign records in HubSpot and agency tracking documents, including contacts, outreach, responses, results, and next steps; contribute to client updates and campaign wrap-up reporting
Coordinate campaign assets and deadlines with graphic designers, advertising partners, and other contractors
Communicate professionally with clients and stakeholders, including authors, publishing teams, literary agents, media contacts, influencers, and other partners, as appropriate for each campaign
Follow established agency workflows and contribute to updates to team documents, best-practice guides, campaign templates, and systems as needed

An excellent writer and communicator with strong attention to spelling, grammar, tone, and detail
Highly organized and comfortable keeping track of many small details, deadlines, follow-ups, and moving pieces across multiple projects
A lifelong learner who is excited to develop new skills across marketing and publicity
Curious about the changing media and marketing landscape and interested in learning what is working for books and authors right now
Comfortable taking ownership of your work while also asking questions and collaborating with more senior team members
A proactive team player who communicates clearly and frequently in a fully remote environment
Reliable, responsive, efficient, and able to follow through on deadlines
Kind, flexible, and comfortable working in a small, fast-paced company where team members may wear many hats
Excited to learn new systems, processes, tools, and technology that make our campaigns more effective and efficient
Desired Skills Include:
3+ years of professional experience in book publishing, publicity, marketing, media, communications, or a related field is strongly preferred
Excellent research and writing skills, with an interest in learning how to identify the right audiences and opportunities for individual books and write compelling marketing and publicity pitches
Familiarity with the media landscape, including print and digital media, podcasts, newsletters, Substacks, social media, and other emerging platforms is a plus
Familiarity with marketing and productivity tools such as HubSpot or another CRM, Asana, Slack, Google Workspace, Canva, email marketing platforms, CMS platforms, analytics tools, or media databases is a plus
Knowledge of online reading communities, publishing trends, media, and books across genres is a plus
